Trio Los Fandangos

Naoko Iwatsu (accordion), Taeko Akimoto (piano), Aogu Tanimoto (violin)

Formed in Fukuoka in 1999, the trio has continued to embody Argentine tango with their whole being. Their dynamic and closely intertwined performances, centered on masterpieces from tango’s Golden Age, have earned strong support at milongas, where tango lovers gather to dance.

Since 2002, they have toured Kyushu and western Japan every spring with dancers Kenji & Liliana in the concert tour Tango no Sekku. They have appeared at major tango festivals in Japan, including Tokyo Tango Festival (2012), Fukuoka SAKURA TANGO FES. (since 2014, every spring), Nara Tango Festival (2015), and Japan Tango Festival (2018).

Internationally, they have performed at the 4th Shanghai International Tango Festival (2014), in Luxembourg and Vienna (2015), and in Seoul, South Korea (2018). In 2017, they made their fifth performance tour to Buenos Aires, Argentina, captivating local tango audiences at renowned milongas such as Maldita Milonga, Milonga Parakultural, Dos Orillas, and Zonatango, as well as at the live music venue La Trama.

In December 2023, the trio received the Japan Tango Award 2023 (Music Division) from the FJTA (Federation of Japanese Tango Associations). Their latest CD, 9, will be released in May 2025.
